What should one be careful about when buying a firewall?
The internet is wonderful for so many reasons. A user is able to surf from site to site to find information or to get work done. However, because of the sheer size of the internet, some of the sites are created by people with terrible intentions. These people are referred to as hackers. As an internet user, you’ve got to make sure you have certain security measures in place so that you and your computer network don’t fall victim to spyware, malware or harmful viruses.
Investing in a firewall for your business computer network is imperative to keeping your computers safe from unwanted intruders. Firewalls are quite simple in nature. They work by meticulously allowing traffic to flow between secure (your network) and insecure (other unknown networks). Your network is referred to as the intranet because the users are allowed to access information. A firewall will disconnect the intranet from the internet. That way, random people on the internet are unable to reach sensitive information on your intranet. If you have a firewall, hackers will be unable to access your important information.
There are a couple elements you should look out for when investing in a firewall that will be right for your network or intranet. First of all, you should be able to manipulate the firewall to make sure that certain information is allowed through. This could be done in the form of a prompt coming from the firewall asking you if you approve the process that is about to take place. If you understand the process and you initiated it, simply say yet. If it is a hacker trying to get inside your intranet, you should say no. One of the biggest complaints of firewalls is that they don’t allow pop-ups, even if it is a safe pop-up from an email.
Often these issues can be taken care of by a computer technician in Las Vegas or by simply re-reading the firewall directions.
