Computer RepairsIt is a normal Tuesday night, work is going well and your computers seem to be functioning well.  You haven’t really even thought about them for a while, and then a power surge hits them or the computer dies.  There were all sorts of files that need to be recovered.  This could be months worth of work lost forever.  What can you do?

The first thing you need to do is determine if your issues are from a single instance disaster like power or water or an Operating System / Virus disaster.  If you computer can still turn on and the data all seems to be missing, it is not the power supply, obviously.

Rather than telling you it would have been better if you would have had a data recovery system in place, which you surely understand at the moment if you are dealing with massive data loss, we want to help you take a breath and realize all may not be lost.  With the proper recovery software and hardware, much of your lost data can be retrieved if you have the physical hard drive you know the data should be on.  If it was damaged in a fire and all the data was on premise, there is obviously very little that can be done if the hard drive was melted in the fire.

For those looking for a data recovery solution, it is critical to realize the size of your system needs to be in alignment to your needs.  A single user may be able to get away with a Dropbox kind of solution.  For Enterprise customers, that will not work.

We are happy to discuss the particulars of your situation and see if we can help you recover your lost data.  Give us a call to set up a free consultation in Las Vegas today!

Cloud Storage and Remote Data Backup for Your Small Business

As computer operations infiltrate your business model, it can become confusing to know how to manage a company network. If you can’t afford to hire a full-time IT specialist, you may find that you are frustrated by the need to update your system and maintain security. Working with a data backup business in Las Vegas can prove helpful in that you can limit your expenses to consultation fees while still having access to current trends and issues. Your consultant can provide you with effective solutions that meet your current needs while planning for your potential needs as growth and expansion occur.

It’s important to realize that even if your business is limited to a single computer, your data can be vulnerable to loss in the event of an unexpected event. A power surge or a major event like an earthquake can lead to damage that leaves your data irretrievable. In some cases, a hard drive may be rescued and read, but if data backup has been sketchy, there are no guarantees of recovery. Implementing cloud services into your approach to management can assure that your vital files are retained remotely regardless of damage onsite. Your Las Vegas data backup specialist can provide you with comprehensive information and strategies for securing your files.

Don't Stress About Data Storage

Thorough and Redundant Data Storage

A good firm providing computer repair in Las Vegas would ensure that its client organization chooses the appropriate data storage solution for its needs.

There are many questions to consider when determine these requirements. Is there a large quantity of audio/video material being stored? Does the data need to be readily accessible or is it acceptable to archive the material offline? How confidential is the data? What data should be left decentralized at the level of the desktop? Which directories should data be stored in, and what are the access privileges involved?

Data storage should be redundant so that if one server is off-line, access to the same data is seamlessly provided by another. Data storage should be scalable so that additional storage can be added to the system with minimal downtime. Data should be secure so that it can only be accessed by those with proper credentials. It’s also important to establish clear steps for data retrieval and disaster recovery options in case of inadvertent data loss.

Data loss, alongside data theft, is arguably the single largest stress point in an IT department, outweighing any other system calamity. One can replace a burnt out CPU or memory card, but one cannot simply replace precious data. A firm providing computer repair in Las Vegas would ensure its client is aware of the level of security, redundancy and stability of its data to minimize any possibility of data loss or data theft from occurring.

This week one of our staff members had their iPhone crash on them and when they tried to restore their phone from the Back Up, it didn’t go smoothly because the file was corrupted and it turned out it was faster for them to re-enter their data than it was to try and fix the corrupted file.  Since we all all Las Vegas Computer Technicians, you can imagine the grief this person has had to endure as a result of this issue they had.  We have systems in place for the business, the person we speak of neglected this same procedure for their personal devices.

The first thing is all the technicians asked if they had another back up and then found it amusing they never tested their backup at all to make sure it was solid.  The same kinds of things happen on your computer network for your Las Vegas Business.  Drives crash, servers go down and there is that question that will come up if the right things weren’t done…  Is it easier to try and fix or just rebuild from scratch?

Doing an integrity test on your back-up is absolutely essential if you can’t afford to have downtime on your Las Vegas Computer Network.  Has your technician actually moved the data from one server to the other from a backup to make sure it works?  If not, you should call us now before you have to make that painful decision!

If you are a small business owner in Las Vegas, then you probably understand the importance of your computer network!  What you may not understand is what all of these “techie terms” are referring to.  We’ll try and break it down for in English you since there are plenty of people wanting to give you the techie explanation of things.

Network IP Address: An IP address is the specific location on the network where a specific device (like a computer, a printer, a scanner, etc…)  is at.  If you have a device with an IP address and the device driver does not match the IP on the device itself, your device won’t really work.  It is essentially like sending mail to the wrong address and then scratching your head to wonder why you never got the thank you card.

Tape vs D2D Backup:  This would be similar to a cassette tape vs mp3′s.  Can tapes do music?  Of Course. Are they as efficient?  Not at all!  It works the same way with data back up in Las Vegas.

Managed Services:  This is slang for having your IT department outsourced.

Exchange Server:  This is the most common product for mail, calendar sharing, etc.  If you have a server onsite for E mail, you are likely using an Exchange Server.
